While ENews this time of year focuses on local shopping for the holidays and winter, and other poisitive business and community events and news, today we mark a solemn day of remembrance and honor for true Amrican heroes.
On Dec. 7, 1941, a quiet Sunday morning in Hawaii was shattered by one of the most devastating surprise attacks in American history. Japanese forces struck the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, killing more than 2,400 Americans and plunging the United States into World War II.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt called it “a date which will live in infamy,” and indeed, Pearl Harbor Day remains one of the most solemn commemorations in our nation’s calendar.
As we mark another Pearl Harbor Day, fewer than two dozen survivors remain to share their firsthand accounts, making it more crucial than ever to preserve and honor their legacy, and to honor the lives of those killed in the attack and in the battles after.
